Propylene glycol capacity in Asia-Pacific has increased. For buyers with long-term PG Kosher needs, this creates another sourcing signal—but not yet an automatically qualified source of supply.

What Happened?

Dow’s 2025 annual filing states that its Map Ta Phut, Thailand propylene glycol expansion added 80,000 metric tons per year, bringing total site capacity to 250,000 MT/year. Dow states that the expanded site continued supporting growth in food and pharmaceutical applications during 2025.

Dow originally announced the expansion as increasing Map Ta Phut PG output to 250,000 tons annually and identified personal care, pharmaceutical, food, and flavor-and-fragrance markets as target applications.

Why This Matters for PG Kosher

Additional regional capacity can broaden sourcing opportunities, but it does not mean every additional tonne is Kosher-qualified or suitable for every customer. The real procurement opportunity depends on the specific product, manufacturing site, documentation, certification, packaging, logistics, and customer qualification requirements.

This is primarily a supplier-diversification story, not a reason to assume lower pricing or switch sources immediately.
