What Happened?

In a warning letter dated July 27, 2026, FDA discussed controls for incoming high-risk components, supplier Certificates of Analysis, identity testing, and impurity testing for materials including propylene glycol.

A separate FDA warning letter dated July 24, 2026 reiterated that manufacturers accepting supplier COA results should establish their reliability through validation and periodic revalidation while still performing appropriate identity testing on incoming material.

Why This Matters for PG Kosher

Kosher certification and product-quality requirements answer different questions. Kosher certification may satisfy a customer, formulation, or commercial requirement, but regulated manufacturers may still need supplier qualification, lot-specific COAs, identity testing, DEG/EG controls, traceability, change-control procedures, and manufacturing-source approval.

Procurement teams should therefore avoid using “Kosher certified” as a substitute for technical or regulatory qualification.
