DPG Prices Are Moving in Opposite Directions by Region in 2026. What Buyers Should Watch
Dipropylene glycol should not be treated as one global
market in 2026. U.S., Indian, and European pricing diverged during the second
quarter, making accurate origin and landed-cost comparisons even more important
for procurement teams.
What Happened?
ChemAnalyst reported that the U.S. DPG Price Index increased
11.82% quarter over quarter in Q2 2026, while India's index increased 11.93%.
European DPG prices moved lower as propylene oxide costs softened, inventories
remained comfortable, and purchasing interest weakened.
Conditions also changed during the quarter. U.S. spot
pressure eased in June as production improved and inventories rebuilt, while
Indian landed costs remained exposed to freight, insurance, and import
availability.
Why This Matters for DPG
One global DPG benchmark can mask the true drivers of a
buyer's cost. Propylene oxide feedstock direction, regional inventories, import
reliance, freight, prompt availability, and downstream demand can make one
origin more or less competitive at any given time.
What Buyers Should Watch
1 Propylene oxide costs. Feedstock
movement can change supplier economics and influence DPG offers.
2 Regional inventory and demand.
Comfortable stocks can limit price pressure even when other costs rise.
3 Import economics. Freight,
insurance, duties, lead time, and working capital can erase an apparent
regional price advantage.
GreenChem Takeaway
The critical question is not which region has the lowest
headline DPG price. Buyers should examine origin, feedstock direction,
inventory, freight, lead time, and total landed cost before shifting volume
from one region to another.
